I work at a large software company and while I am bracing for layoffs here, mostly due to the share price drop, there is also a counter vailing force where there is a higher demand for engineers. Look at job posting data. The tools still require engineers to run, they are not automous and they struggle in complex systems. Sure that will change over time but it’s really hard to see a time when demand for more software peaks.

I love your family’s art. Clearly Not AI generated. As a writer I feared the blur of AI and creativity. Who knows? But as someone in the market myself, tiny tot potatoes wise, I appreciate that businesses have to grapple with mortality and morality. There will come a time for that choice. Where do you stand?

What an artistic family... love their artwork! I love the "tug-of-war" analogy for AI because it really pinpoints that tension between massive productivity gains and the reality of workforce shifts. Your point about humility is spot on.. we act like we know where this is going, but the range of outcomes is actually getting wider and more unpredictable. It really makes you wonder if our social structures can actually move fast enough to keep up with the tech.

Thank you for this article, brillant. Scary as hell, and I have already lost plenty of jobs as a writer thanks to AI. The quality of articles out there says it all, but then again – the younger generations don't rwad anyways so why pay money for well written articles and copy...
